The number of dirty ‘staches spotted on campus is astronomical and I am extremely impressed with all of the dedication to the cause. For those of you that were not aware, SBE Cares also supports the cause! In addition to an official SBE Cares team (to join or donate, visit www.sbess.ca/sbecares), SBE Cares volunteers will be running events throughout the month to raise awareness and donations. Make sure to stop by the SBE Cares booth in the Peters’ building throughout the week to find out more and pick up a Movember button to showcase your support.
While you’re in the Peters’ building, don’t forget to stop by the Snow Ball booth to pick up your ticket! The annual winter formal, hosted by the SBESS, is an opportunity for all students to wind down, dress up, and celebrate the end of the semester with their friends! To find out more and get your ticket online, visit www.sbess.ca/snowball!
As always, the last few weeks have been eventful within the SBE… Starting with Laurier Day, which was a complete success. I want to congratulate all volunteers and clubs for representing the SBE at an exceptional level, the passion and enthusiasm was apparent and truly made me proud to be an SBE student.

Just as a friendly reminder, and as per Carole’s e-mails, the SBESS does offer a Conferences & Competitions subsidy program for all SBE students. We fully believe that there is a lot of value in attending conferences & competitions across Canada and internationally, so we offer a 50% subsidy for all costs incurred. To find out more about the program, how to apply, and which conferences & competitions are eligible, please visit: http://www.sbess.ca/conferences.php.
I hope that everyone’s mid-term studying is going well and that plenty of Oktoberfest study breaks are taken!

It’s hard to believe that the entire summer has flown by and that we’ll be back at Laurier in just a few short weeks! We definitely cannot wait to welcome the class of 2015 to the School of Business & Economics!
In getting ready for September, the SBESS and SBE Clubs have been up to a lot this term. This past weekend, the SBESS hosted the first ever SBE Club President’s retreat, where we brought in members from the Canadian Association of Business Students to better prepare our student leaders for the upcoming year and increase the collaboration amongst SBE Clubs. This weekend brought to light all of the exciting opportunities that the SBESS and SBE Clubs are working towards providing for SBE students come September. And there is no shortage of opportunities by any means, on top of the 30 events and services that the SBESS provides, we have 20 clubs that do the same. We are excited to announce that September will mark the launch of the newest SBE Club, the Laurier Innovation and Technology Club! To find out more about the different clubs that operate under the SBESS umbrella, please visit http://www.sbess.ca/clubs.php.
Speaking of getting involved – first years, make sure to register for Orientation Day 2011! You can do so by visiting http://www.sbess.ca/oday. O-Day is a great way to get comfortable and involved with the SBE right away, but make sure to get your ticket soon as we only have a handful left!
Looking forward to seeing everyone in September!

Wow! What a semester it’s been! The SBESS and our clubs have been more active than ever this fall and we’ve been breaking records left, right and centre!
The SBESS’ has had our most successful semester yet. The BUNCH Speaker Series (Business + Lunch) brought in three excellent speakers to talk to students about leadership and industry. The SBE Mentorship Program continues to see great interest from first year students still looking for mentors and the JDC Central 2010 team was selected and has been training very hard for the competition at Ryerson in January. They also raised over $1,000 for Habitat for Humanity while doing it! On the social side, the Monopoly Challenge, Oktoberfest social and annual Snow Ball formal were all a great success, bringing hundreds of students together to celebrate the spirit of Laurier’s SBE.
The SBE Clubs have been busy too! The Corporate Social Responsibility Board (CSRB) raised over $900 for their Pack a Present campaign for Hospice of Waterloo and the Laurier Marketing Association just ran their very successful Laurier Marketing Conference! The Link brought in a number of companies for a networking event called Steer Your Career and the Laurier Accounting Association had an incredibly successful co-op dinner bringing in a number of firms to meet with students. We’ve also seen a number of new clubs surface this year, including the Laurier Consulting Club and Women in Leadership.
With all of this activity, it’s hard not to get excited about what will happen next semester. From 5 Days for the Homeless and CSRB’s EVO conference, to the ICE Meltdown Party and Grad Formal, there is something for everyone. The SBESS and a number of our clubs will also start hiring for positions during the winter term and even into next year. Keep a close eye on SBESS.ca for updates.
Congratulations to all students for such a phenomenal semester. Best of luck with your final projects and exams and have a safe and happy holiday season!
